Etobicoke Montessori Reopens as The Mint School: A New Chapter in Early Education Excellence
After 30 years as Etobicoke Montessori, our school reopens as The Mint School, refreshed in name, reimagined in spirit and ready to mint young minds.
A beloved school reopens not just its doors, but its identity.
Once Etobicoke Montessori School, this community landmark, reopens as The Mint School, beginning a bold new chapter in early childhood education. After three decades of nurturing young minds beside the Humber River, we’ve adopted a new name, transformed our space, and renewed our mission. But make no mistake, this isn’t change for novelty’s sake. It’s purpose-driven.
Reopens with Intention, Not Just Renovation
The name Mint isn’t just clever wordplay. It’s a declaration of values. By definition, mint speaks to excellence, precision, and the lasting worth of something made well. Just as a mint strikes coins to the highest standard, we shape minds with intention and care.
Every child holds potential. Our job is to cultivate it with confidence, character, and capability that endures. This belief has guided our evolution from a traditional Montessori to something Toronto hasn’t seen before: the city’s only Montessori offering a fully bilingual classroom experience and our signature Enriched Whole Child Curriculum.
From Etobicoke Montessori to Mint: What’s New. What Remains
Step into The Mint School, and the changes are unmistakable. Sunlit classrooms. Natural materials. Spaces designed to foster focus, movement, and joy. But the most important change isn’t visual, it’s experiential.
Our Enriched Whole Child Curriculum still begins with Montessori’s proven foundation: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Culture. To that, we’ve added layers children need now more than ever – early literacy, STEM, logic games, art and music, wellness practices, and French language exposure. It’s not more for the sake of more. It’s more with purpose.
A Bilingual Advantage That Sets Us Apart
Nowhere is our enriched approach more evident than in our bilingual classrooms. During the sensitive window for language acquisition, children absorb English and French through daily routines, songs, stories, and natural conversation. This immersion doesn’t just prepare them for French in elementary school, it cultivates global awareness, cultural fluency, and adaptable communication.
Executive Director, Saarah Shivji, J.D., fluent in French and a Harvard-trained Montessori leader, puts it plainly:
“With over 90 percent of brain development occurring before age six, we know the power of investing in early education. Our bilingual environment isn't just an add-on, it's integral to how we develop curiosity, character, confidence, and capability in every child.”
Honouring Tradition, Embracing Innovation
As The Mint School begins this next chapter, we remain proudly accredited by Montessori Canada. We continue to honour the heart of Montessori: child-led learning, intrinsic motivation, and respect for the individual.
What sets us apart isn’t that we’ve left tradition behind but that we’ve dared to deepen it.In a world where standing still means falling behind, Mint represents a forward step for early childhood education.
Parents who choose The Mint School aren’t just enrolling in a program. They’re joining a community of families who believe early education should be both meaningful and exceptional. They’re giving their children more than knowledge. They’re giving them the confidence to thrive.
