Dear Parents,
I am Saarah Shivji, J.D., Executive Director at Mint. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our Montessori schools located in Toronto’s west end Etobicoke neighbourhood. The Etobicoke Campus was founded in 1995 by Christina Zentena as Etobicoke Montessori School, and the Mimico Campus was founded in 2017 by Nicole Canejo as Royal York Childcare Centre. Mint offers your child a one-of-a-kind enriched, bilingual Montessori experience.
I founded The Mint School after years of searching for an early learning environment that truly reflected the kind of education and care I envisioned for my own child. While exploring different programs, I found myself continually wishing for a school that combined authentic Montessori education, bilingual learning, a refined environment, and a deep respect for each child’s individuality and potential. Ultimately, I decided to create that environment myself.
With a law degree from the University of British Columbia and over 15 years of legal practice, I lead with strategic vision, intellectual depth, and community-mindedness. My passion for learning and teaching led me to pursue my Montessori Diploma through the MACTE-accredited Montessori Teachers College, as well as specialized training through Harvard University’s Early Education Leadership program.
Fluent in French, I also contribute to the bilingual learning environment we offer our students. My husband is a physician, and we share a deep commitment to uplifting our community. With over 90 percent of brain development occurring before age six, we know the power of investing in early education. My extensive training and experience inform Mint’s commitment to offer the best in early childhood learning. My school gives young children the motivation and tools to confidently and proudly take ownership of their own learning journey. I can’t wait to watch them grow into empowered leaders of tomorrow.

Mint Etobicoke
Toddler Community
Sera Sorbara
I have had the honour of working at Mint as a Toddler Teacher for the past year. It has been a truly rewarding experience filled with growth, meaningful learning, and strong connections amongst myself and my students. I hold an Early Childhood Education Diploma and have also pursued my Infant Toddler Montessori Diploma. This role is very close to my heart. I see my classroom as a small, supportive community where we learn together, care for one another, and celebrate each child’s unique journey. My goal as an educator is to work alongside my toddlers to build confidence, develop independence from an early age, and learn through exploration and hands-on experiences in a nurturing environment. Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and loved ones.
Gina Torkos
I have been a Montessori Teaching Assistant at Mint since 2018, working closely with children 18 months to 6 years old. I enjoy supporting the children’s growth and seeing their pure happiness each day. I value the strong sense of trust I have built with the children. Over the years, I have earned various certifications including Nursing through the Red Cross Society of Romania, Food Handling, Canadian Language Benchmarks and more, all of which have contributed to my skills at the school. During my free time, I enjoy hiking and walking nature trails on the weekends.
Halyna Sultanova
I am a French Assistant and Toddler Montessori Assistant with a bachelor’s degree and experience working with children. I am also a graphic designer with a strong passion for creativity, art, music, and hands-on activities.
I love singing and encouraging children to express themselves through art, imaginative play, and creative experiences. I believe creativity helps children develop confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. I strive to bring warmth, patience, positive energy, and genuine care to my work with every child.

Aysia Gargarella-Brown
It has been a privilege to be part of this school for the past seven years. Teaching here has been more than a job, it has been a deeply rewarding and meaningful experience. I hold an Honours Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Community Social Services, with an Area of Emphasis in Youth and Families, as well as an Early Childhood Montessori Diploma. My teaching approach is centered around creating a safe, joyful, and engaging learning environment where children feel confident to explore and learn. I strive to foster independence and a sense of accomplishment in each child, encouraging them to take pride and joy in their work and learning. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is witnessing the pride and joy my students feel after successfully completing a task or mastering a lesson. Seeing their confidence grow in these moments is truly the highlight of my work as an educator. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy long walks with my puppy.
Jennifer Aparicio
With over a decade of experience working with children, I am a passionate and dedicated Montessori educator who believes in creating a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child feels valued and supported. I am committed to fostering independence, confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning.
My approach is guided by the Montessori philosophy of respecting each child as an individual and allowing them to learn and grow at their own pace. I value building meaningful relationships with children and families and strive to create a positive and enriching experience for every child in my care.
Victoria De Souza
I’ve been working at Mint since 2023 while pursuing my Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Studies. I am privileged to work here as a Montessori Teaching Assistant and Supply staff. I have had the opportunity to work in all classrooms, from Toddler through to Casa. This experience has allowed me to work with children ranging from 18 months to 6 years old gaining hands-on experience with Montessori materials and curriculum. Each day, I apply what I learn in university while also learning from my co-teachers and the children to help create a supportive, engaging learning environment. During my free time, I enjoy reading and going for leisurely walks.

I am a dedicated educator with seven years of experience teaching French and working in Montessori environments. My experience has shaped my approach to fostering independence, curiosity, and a love of learning in young children. I am passionate about helping children grow not only academically but also socially and emotionally. I especially enjoy creating a warm, engaging space where students feel confident to explore language and express themselves. One of my greatest joys in teaching is witnessing those “lightbulb moments” when a child makes a discovery or overcomes a challenge. Outside of the classroom, I love baking, swimming and reading.

An experienced piano and vocal coach and performer, I bring a deep passion for music and the arts to The Mint School community. As a mother of three, I bring a nurturing approach to music education, helping children develop confidence, self-expression, and a lifelong appreciation for music. I work with the children through their weekly Music & Movement lessons, as well as with our piano students, creating joyful and engaging opportunities for children to explore rhythm, movement, voice, and musical expression.

Brittney Fisher
I am a Registered Early Childhood Educator in the infant room at Mint and have also pursued my Infant Toddler Montessori Diploma through Montessori Teachers College. For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for spending time with children, learning about their development, and being an active part of the village that supports them.
My philosophy as an educator is guided by the belief that every child is competent, capable, and has an innate drive to learn and grow. I value curiosity, emotional awareness, and self-determination, and I strive to foster these qualities in the classroom each day. In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature, learning new things, and pursuing creative hobbies.
Rigsum Chodend
I am excited to be part of The Mint School community. I graduated from George Brown College’s Early Childhood Education program and am passionate about creating a caring and welcoming environment where children feel confident to explore, learn, and express themselves.
What I love most about being an educator is witnessing children’s curiosity, independence, and growth each day. I believe children are capable and naturally eager to learn when they are given opportunities to explore, make choices, and engage in meaningful experiences. I enjoy observing and supporting children as they follow their interests, develop new skills, build confidence, and discover the joy of learning at their own pace. In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and exploring new places, and I love bringing creativity, positivity, and a sense of wonder into my work with children.
Sophie Shin
It is a true privilege to be part of the team at The Mint School. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Child Studies and am a Registered Early Childhood Educator in Ontario. Over the years, I have gained extensive hands-on experience working with young children across a range of early age groups.
My educational philosophy centres on creating an environment that respects each child’s unique characteristics and needs while encouraging natural learning through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions. As a mother of two, I also bring a parent’s warmth and perspective to my work. I am dedicated to nurturing each child’s individual development and emotional well-being while helping them feel safe, confident, and supported.
Larissa Smith
Working with children and families has been an incredibly rewarding experience and has deepened my passion for early childhood education. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Studies, and I value the opportunity to apply what I have learned to support children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
My approach centers on learning through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions within a safe and nurturing environment. I believe positive guidance and encouragement help children build confidence and develop independence. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching each child’s unique personality emerge and witnessing the many milestones they achieve along the way. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, taking walks, travelling, and discovering new places around the city.

Daniela Aucoin
Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and helping a child experience success is at the heart of my work as an educator. I have worked in the field since graduating from Humber College’s Early Childhood Education program in 2024, and I have also pursued my Infant Toddler Montessori Diploma through Montessori Teachers College.
My teaching approach is centred on the individual child and supporting each child at their own pace. I strive to create a classroom environment that is warm, safe, and joyful—a place where children can grow in confidence, develop independence, and feel comfortable taking on new challenges. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching a young child persevere, master something new, and feel proud of what they have accomplished.
Jennifer Park
I am delighted to be part of The Mint School community and to support our curious toddlers each day. Through my experience working with children across different age groups, I have developed a deep appreciation for the unique ways in which every child grows, learns, and discovers the world.
As a Montessori Assistant in the toddler classroom, my goal is to create a safe, loving, and engaging environment where children feel confident to explore, build independence, and learn at their own pace. Nothing brings me more joy than watching a child discover something new and beam with pride after mastering a new skill.In my personal time, I enjoy relaxing at home with my little dog and taking time to recharge.

I am excited to be part of The Mint School and to teach Montessori. I have worked in education for more than nine years and hold a Master’s degree in Biology and Health Education. For the past three years, I have worked as an Early Childhood Assistant/Educator. I am currently studying Early Childhood Education at George Brown College.
I believe every child deserves a safe, caring, and inspiring environment where they feel valued, supported, and encouraged to become confident and independent learners. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching children develop new skills, grow in confidence, and build positive relationships with those around them. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, exploring Canada, camping, and caring for our pet hamsters.

Tori Fisher-Sousa
Born and raised in Etobicoke, I have been working as an Early Childhood Assistant since 2023. Before entering the child care setting, I worked as a lunchroom supervisor with the Toronto District School Board. Growing up with a mother who also works in child care, I was inspired by the warmth and connection she brought to her work with children. I also remember the positive impact my own kindergarten teacher had on me, which helped shape my desire to work with young children.
I find it incredibly rewarding to build meaningful relationships with children and to support them as they grow into kind, caring, and confident individuals. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy relaxing with my chihuahua, Bean, and attending dog-friendly events.

Toddler Community
Daniela Aucoin
Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and helping a child experience success is at the heart of my work as an educator. I have worked in the field since graduating from Humber College’s Early Childhood Education program in 2024, and I have also pursued my Infant Toddler Montessori Diploma through Montessori Teachers College.
My teaching approach is centred on the individual child and supporting each child at their own pace. I strive to create a classroom environment that is warm, safe, and joyful—a place where children can grow in confidence, develop independence, and feel comfortable taking on new challenges. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching a young child persevere, master something new, and feel proud of what they have accomplished.
Jennifer Park
I am delighted to be part of The Mint School community and to support our curious toddlers each day. Through my experience working with children across different age groups, I have developed a deep appreciation for the unique ways in which every child grows, learns, and discovers the world.
As a Montessori Assistant in the toddler classroom, my goal is to create a safe, loving, and engaging environment where children feel confident to explore, build independence, and learn at their own pace. Nothing brings me more joy than watching a child discover something new and beam with pride after mastering a new skill.In my personal time, I enjoy relaxing at home with my little dog and taking time to recharge.

I am delighted to be part of The Mint School community as a French Teacher and Montessori Assistant. I hold a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Law and have several years of experience teaching French to children of different ages and levels. Through this work, I have developed a true passion for working with young learners and creating a warm, joyful environment where children feel safe, confident, curious, and free to explore.
My background in Addiction and Community Service Work has further strengthened my ability to support children with patience, empathy, and care. For me, French is much more than a language—it is a way to connect, communicate, discover, and have fun. I love incorporating songs, music, movement, and dance into learning and sharing my energy, creativity, and love of French with the children and families at The Mint School.

I am excited to be part of The Mint School and to teach Montessori. I have worked in education for more than nine years and hold a Master’s degree in Biology and Health Education. For the past three years, I have worked as an Early Childhood Assistant/Educator. I am currently studying Early Childhood Education at George Brown College.
I believe every child deserves a safe, caring, and inspiring environment where they feel valued, supported, and encouraged to become confident and independent learners. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is watching children develop new skills, grow in confidence, and build positive relationships with those around them. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family, travelling, exploring Canada, camping, and caring for our pet hamsters.

Liliana Benker
An experienced piano and vocal coach and performer, I bring a deep passion for music and the arts to The Mint School community. As a mother of three, I bring a nurturing approach to music education, helping children develop confidence, self-expression, and a lifelong appreciation for music. I work with the children through their weekly Music & Movement lessons, as well as with our piano students, creating joyful and engaging opportunities for children to explore rhythm, movement, voice, and musical expression.

Tori Fisher-Sousa
Born and raised in Etobicoke, I have been working as an Early Childhood Assistant since 2023. Before entering the child care setting, I worked as a lunchroom supervisor with the Toronto District School Board. Growing up with a mother who also works in child care, I was inspired by the warmth and connection she brought to her work with children. I also remember the positive impact my own kindergarten teacher had on me, which helped shape my desire to work with young children.
I find it incredibly rewarding to build meaningful relationships with children and to support them as they grow into kind, caring, and confident individuals. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy relaxing with my chihuahua, Bean, and attending dog-friendly events.

Saarah Shivji
I am Saarah Shivji, J.D., Executive Director and founder of The Mint School. I founded Mint after searching for an early learning environment that reflected the education and care I envisioned for my own child: authentic Montessori education, bilingual learning, a refined environment, and a deep respect for each child’s individuality and potential.
With a law degree from the University of British Columbia and over 15 years of legal practice, I bring strategic vision, intellectual depth, and community-mindedness to my role. My passion for learning and teaching led me to pursue my Montessori Diploma through the MACTE-accredited Montessori Teachers College, as well as specialized training through Harvard University’s Early Education Leadership program.
Fluent in French, I also contribute to Mint’s bilingual learning environment. I believe deeply in the importance of investing in the early years and in giving children the confidence, independence, and tools to take ownership of their learning and grow into empowered leaders of tomorrow.

Humber College
Mint proudly partners with Humber College to support the next generation of early childhood educators. Through this collaboration, Humber sends practicum students to gain hands-on experience in our Montessori classrooms. These students work under the guidance of our trained educators, contributing meaningfully while learning through real classroom engagement. This partnership enriches our school community and helps mentor future educators.
